Christmas has arrived at Bennetts

Is Bennetts Christmas Tree the largest ‘real’ indoor tree in England ?
Bennetts Retail Director, Ian McMillen, certainly thinks so!
“I don’t know of any other retail outlet that has a decorated real tree that’s bigger than ours and we will donate £50 to Children in Need if we are wrong”, says Mr McMillen.
The Bennetts tree has long been a Christmas institution in Derby with hundreds of visitors making a special trip to see it.
This year the whole store has had a make over –with new all glass shop fronts---- and the tree is in keeping with the new look, sitting below the Tearooms in a super new roomset, complete with a flickering fire and an 8ft crystal chandelier
A traditional Norway Spruce, the tree is installed each year on a Saturday during early November.
It takes staff about an hour to get the tree in position and then all day Sunday to festoon it with about 3000 lights and a different selection of decorations every year.
“It’s a major operation to get a tree that size actually through the store doors never mind upright and securely in place at the foot of our main staircase but, after years of practice, we now have it down to a fine art”, says Mr McMillen.
If anyone knows of a larger genuine Christmas tree in any other store, Mr McMillen would be delighted to hear from you, and will donate £50 to Children in Need.
