Derbyshire Master Chef
 
As part of Bennetts 275th year in business Bennetts Derbyshire Master Chef is an initiative to promote emerging talent and showcase fresh local ingredients and produce. 
 
Bennetts has teamed up with The Derbyshire Food and Drink Awards, Derbyshire Restaurants and local producers to put together Derbyshire Master Chef.

The Bennetts Derbyshire Master Chef is positioned as a platform to promote Derbyshire Talent. There might be heats and prizes, but this is as much more about a showcase for innovation in catering, and promoting emerging talent.

Awards
 
An awards Ceremony will be held at Thornbridge Hall on October 15th. TV Celebrity Chef Brian Turner who is working with the Derbyshire Food Awards 2009 will be presenting the prizes.

Entry Criteria
  
Yes, If you are 16 years or over, and want to get involved with the catering industry.
Yes, If you are already in the catering industry and want to further your career.
Yes, If you are already in catering training and want to start your career.
Yes, If you have a particular set of skills or innovative ideas that you would like to showcase.
  
No, If you are well established in your career, or have your own business, but we would like to hear from you if you would like to host a heat or judge, or sponsor a prize.

Further Information
  
Selection - Will be done by a panel and to be a successful applicant you should be able to demonstrate how you would like to further your career in catering and or showcase innovative ideas or skills in catering.
  
Initial Heats - Will be held across the region, and competitors will be allocated a heat location based on where they live.
  
Local Produce - Initial Heats will require the competitors to plan cook and serve one course using their own ingredients. The competitors should be able to answer some basic questions on their inspiration for the dish and the provenance of the ingredients.
  

Judging Criteria - The panels of Judges will be given guidance on criteria, but a particular weighting will be given to;

  • Local Produce
  • Innovation
  • Emerging Talent
Food Genre - Entrants are encouraged not to be constrained in their offering, as long as it can be prepared in a Proffessional Kitchen. 
  
The Chef's Table
  
Phase 1 of the final is a Team event. It is designed to see how the Finalists will work as a team. It will happen at Opulence Restaurant in Derby where the finalists will plan a menu, prepare and cook a meal at the Chef's Table, for a panel of 8 Judges.
  
This will be done under the watchful eye of Dean Crews the Head Chef, and a panel of Judges which includes people from the Business, Catering and Media across Derbyshire.
  
The finalists will also be give guidance on Drink and Food Matching by David from Red Zebra Drinks, and will have to match their Menu with Drinks that compliment the meal.
