Art critics around the world have praised Loet Vanderveen for freeze-framing the essence of the animal in his Bronze sculptures. (So I'll leave this Small Hippo to speak for itself). With their beautiful patinas of ebony, browns Burgundies, reds and jade Greens, and highlighted with gold these would be an absolute delight to display in any household.
Loet Vanderveen’s creation begins with an artistically perfect Sculpture made from clay, wood, wax or plaster. Then a mold is made from the animal sculpture to capture every detail of vanderveen’s original. Hot wax is then added to the mold when cooled it is removed and hand finished to perfection. The wax is then coated with ceramic called investing, which can take up to a week. Its then fired in a kiln and the molten bronze is added. When the Bronze is cool the ceramic is chipped away and the Animal sculpture is cleaned and polished before going through its patination process, which involves the use of chemical and heat treatment to produce the finished masterpiece.
