The herb basil grows wild in the Mediterranean but actually originated in India where it is considered sacred to the Gods. Used abundantly in Indian and Italian dishes basil it is favoured by chefs worldwide and known in Greece as the ‘Herb of Kings’, basil being Greek for king. It is also reputed to have many medicinal properties.
Each piece in the Franz Collection of china tableware is hand painted and fired using the finest Chinese clay and glazes. Inspired by nature and combining the sinuous curves of the Art Nouveau era with the more classic artistry of China each cup and saucer, spoon and jug is beauutiful yet functional.
Finely sculptured accents of fragile flowers, butterflies and other aspects of flora and fauna give the Collections a 3-dimensional appearance with a delicacy that belies its strength.
