| Stuart Side Rest Decanter | The Stuart Crystal Side Rest Decanter has the traditional Naval Crystal Decanter Shape, and is cut in the Shaftesbury Pattern. The construction is of 24 Percent lead crystal which is strong and has a deep shine. The stopper is machined to ensure a virtually air tight fit which will keep the contents at their optimum for longer.
Crystal Design
The design of decanters for use on Naval Vessels are such that the cannot fall over as the ship moved. There were two main types; the wide bottomed decanter kept the center of gravity low and as such was stable. There are also pointed, or side rest decanters, once these were off their base they had to be held as the Port Decanter was passed round the table, these had the added advantage of allowing sediment to settle. | | | | | Other items of interest. | | |
