| Mallard Duck | The Story of the production of this Royal Crown Derby Mallard Duck is well told in the Paperweights Collectors Guide by Ian Cox.
Modelled by John Ablitt after he observed a family of ducks on his own pond. The resulting sculpture successfully captured the graceful lines and sleek body of this adult male mallard.
The Mallard is made in a casting box of four pieces fefore being fired and re-fired during the hand finishing and decorating process.
The Royal Crown Derby Mallard's head is highly curvacious and true to the real bird, so a special decorating process was designed by Rita Harris to accomodate this.
